ASTM A240 Type 316 Coil and SS 316 Plate Supplier in India

Jade Alloys is a Mumbai-based manufacturer and stockist of stainless steel 316 plates, Stainless Steel 316 Sheet, 316 stainless plate and 316L stainless steel sheet available in all standard grades, finishes, and custom cut sizes. Stainless Steel 316 is an austenitic grade with excellent tensile strength, ductility, and formability, offering reliable performance from cryogenic temperatures up to 925°C.
SS 316 contains molybdenum, which provides superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride-bearing environments. ASTM A240 Grade 316 also has a lower-carbon variant designated 316L which prevents carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during and after welding. For high-temperature service above 500°C, the higher-carbon variant SS 316H is recommended.
ASTM A240 Type 316 Perforated Plates are available punched to custom shapes and dimensions, widely used in architectural cladding and decorative applications. SS 316 Shim Stock is used extensively in food processing, boat fittings, mining equipment, chemical transportation containers, and brewery equipment. 316 Stainless Steel is also specified for coastal architecture panelling, mining screens, and laboratory benches. The material resists hydrochloric, sulfuric, formic, tartaric, and acetic acid, as well as sulfate and alkali chlorides.
SS 316L is preferred for welded components and heavy-gauge fabrications where post-weld heat treatment is not feasible. SS 316 Plate Price per kg varies depending on thickness, surface finish, and order quantity — contact Jade Alloys for a current quote.

- Frequently Asked Questions — Stainless Steel 316 Plates
What is the Difference Between SS 316 and SS 316L?
The key difference is carbon content. SS 316 has a maximum carbon content of 0.08%, while SS 316L is limited to 0.03%. This lower carbon in 316L prevents carbide precipitation along grain boundaries during welding, a process called sensitization which can cause intergranular corrosion in service. As a result, SS 316L is preferred for heavy-gauge welded structures and applications where post-weld heat treatment is not feasible.
Both grades offer identical corrosion resistance, formability, and mechanical properties at ambient temperatures. For high-temperature applications above 500°C, SS 316 (or the high-carbon variant SS 316H) is preferred for its superior creep resistance.

Stainless Steel 316 / 316L Sheet & Plate Price per kg
Indicative price range: Rs 240 – Rs 280 per kg (ex-Mumbai). SS 316L commands a slight premium over SS 316 due to the tighter carbon specification. Prices vary with thickness, surface finish, and order quantity — bulk orders attract preferential rates.
